Leyland Trucks has been a PACCAR company since 1998 and produces the full range of DAF product in support of DAFs markets in the UK and around the world. DAF occupies a leading position in the European truck market. In 2015, the company achieved a market share of 14.6% in the heavy-duty segment (16 tonnes and over). DAF is the market leader in the UK, the Netherlands, and Hungary and the number one supplier in the tractor market in Belgium and Poland. DAF's European market share in 2015 for the light segment (6–16 tonnes) was 9.0%.
Last year, the total market for heavy-duty commercial vehicles in the European Union was almost 269,000 units. This is an increase of around 18.5% compared with 2014, when almost 227,000 trucks were registered in this segment. DAF expects the European market for heavy-duty trucks to amount to between 240,000 and 275,000 vehicles this year.
DAF strengthened its position outside Europe in 2014. In Taiwan, the product range was extended to include the CF65 for urban distribution and the XF105 for long-distance transport. In addition, DAF trucks were introduced in Kazakhstan, Jordan and Nigeria. In total, around 75 new dealer outlets were opened in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, and in Russia, South America and Asia. DAF has a network of more than 1,000 independent dealers worldwide.
In Poland, the XF Euro 6 was named 'Truck of the Year'. In Ireland, the PACCAR MX-11 engine won the 'Truck Innovation Award' in recognition of its unprecedented reliability and efficiency. In Slovakia, the DAF LF was declared the most popular truck.
The new DAF Transport Efficiency programme, which optimises yield per kilometre, underlines DAF’s position as a supplier of efficient transport solutions. With its trendsetting product range, first-class services and extensive dealer network, DAF is ideally placed to grow its market share in the coming years.
