Leyland Trucks wins Green Business Award
Leyland received the Green Business Award for Waste Reduction and Recycling at an awards ceremony
at the Grosvenor House in London.
The awards are presented by ENDS, the specialist environmental publishers and the leading source of
information for professionals on environment, sustainability and climate change, and Management Today, Britain's
leading monthly business magazine.
The Green Business Awards celebrate excellence in green practice, strategy and products. They recognize
the most innovative, ambitious and effective initiatives by UK business for achieving environmental sustainability,
and implementing smart business practice. They are considered the “Green Globes” and are the UK's most comprehensive
awards on the subject.
The Green Business Awards have been recognised as a leading environmental awards scheme by winning
accreditation from the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), meaning winners of the Green Business Awards are eligible for entry
to the prestigious European Business Awards for the Environment, run by the European Commission.
There were 13 categories, from which Marks and Spencer won the overall Green Business of the Year. Leyland
competed against Coca-Cola Enterprises, Fisher Scientific UK, Egger UK, Johnson Tiles and Lenzing Fibers. Leyland was
recognized for its multi year journey to become the first commercial vehicle manufacturer in Europe to achieve Zero Waste
to Landfill, through the use of Six Sigma to identify waste streams, waste segregation at the point of use and identification
of recycling methods. Key things the judges looked for were: evidence of substantive actions and environmental benefits,
integration into broader planning and top level direction.
