PACCAR UK Earns Queen’s Award for Enterprise; Leyland Trucks Delivers Increased Exports
PACCAR UK (Leyland Trucks Limited) has been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise
in International Trade for increasing overseas revenues substantially. Jim Sumner, Leyland managing director,
stated, “Leyland is delighted to receive this prestigious award for increasing exports by over 100
percent in the last several years. It’s wonderful recognition of our employees’ dedication to designing the
highest-quality commercial vehicles in the marketplace.” In 2008, Leyland Trucks delivered a record
24,700 vehicles while enhancing its industry-leading vehicle quality and manufacturing efficiency.
PACCAR generates annual revenues in the U.K. of £1 billion. Its DAF vehicles lead the U.K.
commercial vehicle market and have earned a 30 percent share in all six segments in the 7.5- to 40-tonne
sector. The Leyland manufacturing facility, located in Preston, Lancashire, is one of the most
technologically advanced manufacturing facilities in the U.K. It produces DAF’s complete product range,
including the LF, CF and XF, for the U.K. and European markets, as well as for North America and Asia. Mark
Pigott, PACCAR chairman and chief executive officer, shared, “PACCAR has been manufacturing commercial vehicles
in the U.K. for almost 30 years. The Queen’s Award is a wonderful honor for the company’s employees, customers,
dealers and suppliers.” DAF is the only truck manufacturer in Europe to win the coveted Truck of the Year award
three times in the last decade.”
Leyland Trucks pioneered the installation of robotic chassis paint, integrated material logistics and
the design and production of its own range of truck van bodies, which has increased product quality and accessibility
for customers in the U.K. Several major customers have benefited from partnering with Leyland in designing new van
bodies for their transport applications.
