MX Awards
Excellence puts industry giants in the spotlight
Leading British companies, each a household name, dominate this years MX Awards.
Leyland Trucks, the UK market leader, was shortlisted for five awards - and won
two: Best Financial Management and Logistics & Resource Efficiency. The
Lancashire Company has made full use of a £75 million capital investment over
five years by PACCAR, its American parent, to gain a 27 per cent market share
in the UK and increase production of DAF-branded trucks from 16,000 to 27,000 a
year. It is also focussing on reducing carbon emissions with production of a
hybrid range of trucks starting in 2009.
The judges felt that Leyland is a classic example of a British company with a
chequered history prospering under foreign ownership and more enlightened
management. They were impressed by the highly efficient control of finances and
inventory.
Jim Sumner, Managing Director, says “It is great that our ability to
continue producing at high volume and to consistent high quality has been
recognised. It is a testament to the commitment and professionalism of every
one of our 1,400 employees.”
