Leyland Trucks

Leyland Trucks, one of Britain’s leading manufacturing companies, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PACCAR Inc – PACCAR is a global technology leader in design, manufacture and customer support of high-quality light, medium and heavy-duty trucks under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF nameplates. Since Leyland Trucks was acquired by PACCAR in 1998, it has become the group’s established centre for light and medium truck design, development and manufacture.

The company, employing 970 people, manufactured 25,000 trucks in 2008 of which approximately 50% is exported to all European Union markets and the wider world. Andrea Paver

Andrea Paver - Operations Director

Andrea graduated from Michigan State University in 1990 with an Accounting degree, followed by an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991 with a dual emphasis in Operations Management and Finance. Prior to joining PACCAR, Andrea worked for Rockwell International - Automotive Division in the U.S., holding various positions in Finance, Production and Quality Engineering, working as the production and engineering representative to Ford Motor Heavy Truck.

Andrea joined PACCAR in 1995 as a participant in the corporate Leadership Development Program in Seattle. For the first year, Andrea had various assignments in internal Audit, Sales, quality and Program Management, including a 3 month assignment at Kenworth Chillicothe during a major new product launch.

In 1996 Andrea was assigned as Assistant Materials Manager at the Kenworth Renton plant, followed a year later by an assignment as the Materials Manager at Kenworth Seattle where both Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks were assembled for the first time on the same assembly line.

Andrea then spent the next 5 years with corporate Supplier Quality. During this time Andrea was trained at the University of Michigan in Leadership in Plant Operations. In 2007, Andrea was assigned to Leyland Trucks, U.K. as the Assistant Operations Director, then progressing to Operations Director responsibilities in 2008. Andrea became Managing Director of Leyland Trucks in May 2009

Denis Culloty

Denis Culloty - Chief Engineer

Denis graduated from Liverpool University in 1980 with an Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started his career with Leyland Truck & Bus as a Graduate Engineer before leaving to join Paccar in 1981, and was based at Foden Trucks in Sandbach. His initial career was focussed on vehicle noise & structural test & development. A revolutionary quiet vehicle project (QHV 90) was delivered and Heavy Duty structural testing was instigated to validate innovative off highway suspension systems, this included an assignment based at the Paccar Technical Centre. Denis progressed through Chassis Design roles into Engineering Operations Management.

During this period the DROPS military fleet was developed & commissioned & Foden Trucks produced many innovative lightweight highly customised trucks. After being appointed as Foden Chief Engineer in 1997, the Foden Alpha range was developed to utilise the DAF truck platform as the basis for an extended range of customised trucks. Following the relocation of Foden build to the Leyland factory, the Foden & Leyland teams were integrated & in 2003 Denis was appointed Chief Engineer Foden & Leyland, responsible for the Foden & DAF LF ranges of trucks.

Major achievements since this time include the development of a new common lightweight chassis platform, the development of a new DAF LF specifically for export to the US & the successful delivery of Euro 4 & 5 trucks. Recent developments include the launch of a complete truck body portfolio and also the introduction of industry leading Hardware In the Loop testing methodologies.

Peter Zak

Peter Zak - Director of Logistics at PACCAR Parts UK

Peter graduated from Thames Valley University with a first class honours degree in Accounting in 1990 and then qualified as a Charted Management Accountant in 1994 winning the prize for the Best Paper worldwide in Financial Management in his final examinations. Prior to joining PACCAR Peter worked for Toyota Manufacturing based in the UK, Belgium and France and was part of the team responsible for launching the state-of-the-art automotive facility in Northern France.

Following this Peter worked in the pharmaceutical industry as European Commercial Controller based in Strasbourg. Peter returned to the UK in 2003 when he joined PACCAR as Finance Director for Leyland Trucks with responsibility for the financial business support to the truck plant as well as tax, statutory reporting, company secretary and pension trustee duties.

Peter also assumed responsibility in the set-up phase for PACCAR Parts UK aftermarket business in 2003 and the Foden truck division in 2004. Notable successes during this time for Leyland Trucks were twice winning the prestigious Institute of Mechanical Engineers Manufacturing Excellence award for Best Financial Management in the UK and year on year cost reductions across the Leyland site.

In 2007 Peter attended Cranfield University's General Management Program and then had a short-term assignment to Kenworth truck division in Seattle. Peter moved to the position of Director of Logistics for PACCAR Parts UK in September 2008. In this role Peter had responsibility for all supply chain aspects of PACCAR's aftermarket business in the UK including the distribution centre based at Leyland and all related support functions. In May 2009 Peter progressed to Operations Director for Leyland Trucks.
