Design Engineer - Brakes and Axles 

Department

The Brakes & Axles department is part of the Product Development Organization.

The Brakes & Axles group is responsible for designing & developing the relevant components for the DAF LF range of trucks.

The team currently has 3 members and is part of the wider Product Development team of approximately 100.

Our goal is to efficiently design competitive brake & axle systems for the DAF LF.

The role

  • Provide technical knowledge of air brake systems and steer & drive axles

  • Application development of electronic systems such as AEBS, EBS, ACC, TPMS & ECAS

  • Ensuring that these systems achieve legislation standards and DAF sign off standards for performance

  • Develop design solutions using PTC Creo/Windchill CAD tools

  • Support design activities on major vehicle projects, cost reduction initiatives, production issues and service problem resolution

  • Release and maintain engineering drawings and BOM using engineering processes

  • Deliver technical solutions through calculation, design & development using the DFSS process

  • Represent the Company in technical discussions with suppliers / customers, including travel as required


Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in a Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering discipline or equivalent

  • Commercial vehicle design and development experience including knowledge of air brake systems

  • A knowledge and experience in working with Serial data communications (eg CAN, J1939)

  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes

  • Able to work on own initiative, within cross functional teams and independently

  • PTC CREO/Windchill CAD skills

  • Experience of Six Sigma & DFSS techniques

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

 

Salary

Circa £35K
