Apprentices at Leyland Trucks were invited to showcase their skills to MPs this week to highlight the impact of their training and influence on an overhaul of the apprenticeship levy.

Organised by the SMMT, the event kicked off National Apprenticeship Week with first-year supply chain apprentices Jasmine Sandwell, second-year maintenance apprentice Ethan Sauce and third-year design engineering apprentice Alfie Willis attending Portcullis House in the heart of Westminster.

Amanda Solloway MP and Matt Western MP were joined by MP for South Ribble, Katherine Fletcher, who has been promoting manufacturing in the North West and advancing Leyland Trucks’ reputation.

Maria Rogers, learning and development manager at Leyland Trucks, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for us to display our award-winning apprenticeship scheme.

“In an industry where skills gaps present a risk to progress, and where progress relies upon diversity of thought and experience, it’s vital that we continue to attract and retain talented people. Our apprentices are crucial to the success of our business, and our scheme supports them in successful, fulfilling careers.”

Applications to Leyland Trucks’ 2024 apprenticeship scheme are open until Friday 1 March with positions across the business, from engineering and operations to project management and administration roles, alongside qualifications up to degree level.
